Don’t panic!

Sit back, take a deep breath and don’t freak out just yet, after all, don’t they say rain on your wedding day is good luck? Throughout this blog I’m going to be showing photos to prove to you that rain on your wedding day doesn’t have to be the most awful thing. As an Alberta wedding photographer we actually LOVE when it’s slightly gloomy out, this means you’ll almost always have perfect lighting which equals AMAZING WEDDING PHOTOS!

Embracing all that comes with your wedding day is KEY to making it a great day. Don’t sulk, but dance through the rain with the love of your life and people who love you the most

Clear umbrellas!

As an Edmonton Alberta wedding photographer we know the weather can change at any moment so I don’t leave the house without some of my famous clear umbrellas. They’ll keep you dry AND look pretty cute in your wedding photos!!

If you fear it might rain on your wedding day, definitely stock up on some clear umbrellas or ask your wedding photographer if they keep some stocked!

Have a back up plan

Step number 1 for this would be: Talk to your wedding photographer! They are going to be the biggest help in finding a perfect back up plan for the bulk of your wedding photos.

You can also do some research in the weeks leading up to your wedding day for any type of covered space to take your wedding photos. Look in or around your wedding venue or within your city. Here are places I’ve taken rainy day wedding photos:

  • Greenhouses. Always call and ask beforehand, they may have a fee. If they don’t, make sure you support them by buying a plant or gift!

  • Park Gazebos. Find a park or community space near you with a gazebo style covered space

  • Restaurants / Bars / Coffee Shop. For all of these you should always call and ask beforehand. And again, if they allow with no fee, make sure to also support their business

  • Studio. Studio bridal portraits are actually SUPER underrated and between you and your photographer, you should be able to create some amazing wedding photos within a studio. Most studios will have a fee, so be prepared for that.

Regardless of what happens remember…

This is YOUR wedding day. It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. This day is about you and your partner sharing your wicked love with the rest of your most cherished people. Alberta weddings can change at a drop of a pin so it’s good to be prepared. Talk to your wedding photographer, have a plan and most importantly don’t let the rain ruin the day you’ve been dreaming of!

OH and before I forget, photographers: Don’t worry about your gear!! It’ll be fine I promise!
